CERTIFICATE III IN CARPENTRY
ARE YOU ONE OF THE MANY THOUSANDS OF CARPENTERS WHO HAVE BEEN ON THE TOOLS SINCE YOU CAN REMEMBER?
ARE HIGHLY EXPERIENCED IN CARPENTRY, BUT SIMPLY NEVER COMPLETED THE QUALIFICATION?
EXPLORE THE COURSE
We know this story all too well
It’s one of the most common circumstances we come across. Some of our Trainers & Assessors have been in that position once before.
Whether you’ve worked for your Dad on jobs sites since you were a teen (or for some… since you could walk), handling tools, learning all the tricks of the trade under the supervision of the only person who can be that ruthless and get away with it.
Or perhaps you fall into the category of simply working as a tradesmen for many years being exposed to the large scope of works that is carpentry, and over time through your elaborate work experience, you’ve acquired the skills and knowledge that allow you to continually complete all tasks to a high standard. To see a problem and know a solution, and apply practical skills with flawless execution and superior craftsmanship.
Sound Familiar?
If this is you, don’t worry. It’s not uncommon for individuals in this situation to work for up to or over decades without having undergone formal training and then decide hmmm, it’s about time I get my Carpentry Trade Contractors Licence.
Or think, you know what, I can do this. I can do this myself and run my own business, and take on the work I love the most.
Or simply decide you deserve to have your skills and abilities, your talents, your years of hard work, finally formally recognised, because that piece of paper defines you and you can be proud knowing everything you have ever done, the things you have sacrificed, the early mornings, blood sweat and tears, it was all worth it.
So if this is you, have you ever heard of Recognition of Prior Learning or RPL?
RPL allows individuals to gain formal qualifications without having to undergo traditional training for the skills and knowledge they have already acquired through various means such as:
Previous education
Work experience
On the job training
Through this assessment your experience and knowledge can be captured through competency based conversations with your Trainer & Assessor, and then supported with some student evidence, third party references and self evaluation, allow you you to achieve a competent outcome and take that next step.
The RPL pathway is ideal for:
Experienced carpenters who have worked in the industry but lack formal qualifications
Tradespeople with skills in residential and commercial carpentry and at least 3 to 4 years experience in the trade scope
Workers with overseas qualifications or experience looking to get certified in Australia
Self employed carpenters or subcontractors wanting to meet licensing requirements to grow their business
Not quite sure if you are eligible for RPL?
Not a problem.
You can contact Academia via our Contact Form to receive a call back regarding your query, or reach out directly by calling 0400 616 405 and speak with one of our industry experts to conduct a pre-qualification call to confirm if you’re eligible.
The team at Academia want nothing more than individuals to succeed in the Building and Construction Industry. So regardless of whether you qualify for this pathway, or don’t quite meet the eligibility criteria, we will help answer all your questions and provide guidance to anyone who seeks it.
